Gordes, jewel of Provence, is a hilltop village in the heart of the Luberon. Considered one of the most beautiful villages in France and even in the world, according to the American travel magazine Travel + Leisure, Gordes attracts visitors from all over the world every year for its timeless beauty, cultural richness, and picturesque charm.

The history of Gordes dates back to the Roman era, but it was during the Middle Ages that the village took on its current configuration with its narrow streets, vaulted passages, dry stone houses, and superb medieval castle overlooking the valley.

For centuries, Gordes prospered thanks to agriculture and crafts, especially pottery production, a tradition that still continues today.

The beauty of the mythical village lies in its architecture, with its dressed stone buildings that blend perfectly into the surrounding landscape. The castle of Gordes, located at the top of the hill, is one of the most impressive sites in the village. Built in the 11th century, it was enlarged and underwent significant modifications over the centuries with its crenellated towers and ramparts.

The village itself is beautiful, with its cobbled streets, vaulted passages, and stone staircases that wind between old secular buildings, making it a unique place. The dry stone houses, with their terracotta tile roofs, are a perfect example of traditional Provencal architecture.

Gordes is proud of its rich cultural heritage and traditions, which are reflected in its numerous festivals and events throughout the year. One of the most famous, the Truffe Festival, takes place every February and features local truffles, one of the gastronomic treasures of Provence.

The village also houses several museums, including the Moulin des Bouillons Museum, which traces the history of rural life in Provence, and the Pol Mara Museum, dedicated to the Belgian artist who lived in Gordes for many years.

The weekly market in Gordes is an event not to be missed. It takes place every Tuesday morning in the castle square and remains another highlight of the village's cultural life. Visitors can discover local products, handicrafts, and souvenirs of Provence there.
