AUCTION AT SOTHEBY’S PARIS ON 26 AND 27 APRIL 2016
EXHIBITION 22, 23 AND 25 APRIL 2016
This highly anticipated auction of the fifth part of the R. and B. L. Library is dedicated to two of the 20th century’s most revolutionary movements.
The heart of this extraordinary collection features manuscripts and correspondence by the great names in Dada and Surrealism, testifying to the friendship and artistic dialogue that existed between poets like Aragon, Breton, Éluard, Char and Tzara, and artists including Bellmer, Dalí, Ernst, Giacometti, Léger, Miró, Picasso, Tanguy, and more.
One of the most remarkable works in the collection is Éluard’s copy of La Petite Anthologie du Surréalisme, to which he attached important documents signed by Breton, Char, Dalí, Miró, and an original Picasso etching embellished with two bird feathers. The sale also includes the precious Champs Délicieux, illustrated by 12 Man Ray 'rayographs’, Bellmer’s La Poupée, and an outstanding, unpublished notebook illustrated by Dalí.
The R. and B. L. Library. Dada - Surrealism is organized in association with Binoche and Giquello.
